Corporate Social Responsibility

We place considerable importance on our Corporate Social Responsibility throughout the group, looking at our desired impact on the environment, the communities in which we operate, and our people.

To benefit all of these parties, we focus on three key areas: charity, community and environment.

Charity

Each year we ask our employees to nominate a charity they believe will benefit from our support, and we have a charity of the year for each of our locations. We support our chosen corporate charity partners through both financial gifts and donations of time and resource.

In Gibraltar we support Baby Stepps, which offers much-needed encouragement and emotional comfort to people during those life-changing experiences of pregnancy and parenthood…even when things do go to plan.

The Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital is our chosen charity in Manchester. The hospital raises funds to make sure that the lives of its young patients are made better, helping over 220,000 patients every year across specialities including oncology, haematology, bone marrow transplant, burns and orthopaedics.

In Sussex we support The Early Birth Association, which helps new parents whose babies or children need treatment in special care units, raising funds to buy specialist medical equipment, clothing, nursery and other comfort items.

Over in Guernsey, our charity of the year is The Priaulx Premature Baby Foundation, which raises money to help the local neo-natal unit buy equipment such as incubators, training aids and furniture. It also supports the families of seriously ill older children.

We set ourselves challenging fundraising targets each year and work hard to achieve them through a multitude of events, including bake-offs, bike rides and even skydives. The company then matches every penny that gets donated to help us match our targets.

In addition to our nominated charities, we support Tour de Sez, which is a mammoth annual cycling event that raises money for the Sarah Groves Foundation, a Guernsey-based charity set up to enhance the lives of young people. It’s about ordinary people doing extraordinary things, and we’re proud to say that a number of our people have taken part in the Tour de Sez, and continue to do so.

Community

We strive to be a good corporate citizen in all our locations, recognising our responsibility to work in partnership with the communities in which we operate. Our aim is for these communities to benefit directly from our presence, through our support of local initiatives, charitable events and the community as a whole.

We love getting our people involved, so we encourage everyone to take their one day’s paid leave for volunteering each year. We have an enormous range of worthwhile groups that we volunteer with – from the RSPCA and Manchester’s Beacon Drop-In Centre to St Peter & St James Hospice and the Little Chapel Foundation, as well as a variety of community garden projects.

In addition, we work closely with This is EPIC, a Guernsey-based charity, which exists to see positive change in the lives of people, families and communities worldwide, particularly in Africa. EPIC, which stands for ‘Empowering People to Inspire Change’, perfectly mirrors our own vision, which is why we sponsor EPIC Week each year; to encourage the local community to get active and take on new challenges.

Environment

We like to do our bit for the environment and are committed to conducting our business responsibly, embedding environmental principles and practices into our everyday operations. We strive for a programme of management, continuous improvement and reporting of our direct and indirect impacts, which marks our contribution to improving the world in which we live.

Not only that, but we like to get out in the local communities where we operate to help the environment too. Our people in Guernsey, for example, carry out regular beach cleans, and we also enlisted a group of volunteers from our Haywards Heath office to clean up litter along the seafront in Brighton.
